CV Talks

CV stands for curriculum vitae. It is a summary of a job applicant’s professional experience and educational background, along with other relevant information regarding the candidate’s qualifications. The curriculum vitae is similar to a resume, but is used more frequently by candidates who have published works in journals, such as scientists or academic professionals.

Above definition is taken from an online dictionary. Every potential applicant provides their summary in a page or more. However, it depends on applicant’s professional life. We must keep in mind that CV Talks. This short article is not only for HR professionals, but also for applicants. They must know how CV talks. Though we have a very little experience on CV, this article will help you.

We are taking a name ‘Rusha Manto’ as an example. Naturally, at first, a person introduces himself or herself with name and picture. Name should be at the left top side and picture should be at right. Maximum people write like ‘CV of Rusha Manto’. Please don’t write like this. HR knows that it is a CV. Give a passport size color photo. The photo should have a white background. Don’t wear such transparent cloth that your body can be seen through the cloth. Wear single color light or dark but don’t wear rainbow shirt. Your photo actually shows your strong side of personality. However, after naming yourself you have to provide your living address, contact number and e-mail address. Living address is where you live at that time means, present address. HR naturally observes with the address if you are nearer or far from the work station. Contact number and e-mail are necessary to contact the applicant.

First point is Career Objective. Maximum applicants do not know what should be written at this part. Naturally, they write like “To build career as a journalist by working in a friendly environment where there is an opportunity to work hard, creativity, sincerity and honesty are first priority.” What do you think about the applicant’s objective? He wants to make his career at journalism. It is clear. Next wants to build career in a friendly environment. Has he any doubt? Who will get friendly environment in a competition? So, this one is hazy. Next one, he wants to get opportunity to work hard. Who needs that kind of opportunity? Is he a human or donkey? And talking about sincerity and honesty. It is a way to impress the HR. However, he has made the objective hazy or confused. This person is ‘Yes Sir’ or ‘Man of Oil’. His opinion could not be appropriate for the organization. He should be always confused. What should be written at this section? Rusha Manto should write: To build career as a famous journalist at a renowned News Medium in 12 years. What can we see here? The person is ambitious, determined and eager to reach the goal. Applicant can mention the time. It is not necessary. Time shows his schedule maintaining ability. That means the person has already made a plan and it looks organized. We can say her ‘Right Person’. It is not the only one variable to select a right person, but it is the one of important variables.

Second point is Summary of Qualifications. HR goes through this to know if applicant can meet their requirements or not? Suppose, Rusha Manto says with her CV that he has completed MA with 4 years BA in journalism, having 2 years experience on teaching at university as and also experience on journalism at various organizations, meticulous, associate maintaining power, having good communication skill, hard worker, moderately fluent in English, positive thinking attitude, capable to work under pressure. Her qualities are in front of HR. If HR thinks it is alright to ahead, he will go through his experiences. Make sure that you know about the work, otherwise it will be taken as fake. These experiences of yours will sketch your professional abilities. So, be careful to write down your experiences.

Next, the department goes for Educational profile. Educational profile shows on which sector the applicant has got expertise. Professional profile shows skill. These two profiles are compared with each other. Once upon a time, an organization decided to take an employee as manager. Called for CVs. One of them was very special. The person has completed Dakhil with Science group, HSC with Humanities and B.Com. What are you thinking after reading this? The person is not stable. He is always in confusion. This person is not good for organization. He has no plan for his life. He is not organized.

It is seen that in our country, people of another expertise doing work with another skill. For an example, Rusha Manto has completed his study with Agronomy and doing job at a bank. Her expertise doesn’t go with skill. Agronomy, Agricultural science, Computer science, Forestry etc. passed students doing bank job today. In 2005, a professor of Economics said that government spent 10 lakh taka for an economic student during the program. So, Govt. expends 20 to 30 lakh tk for those students who have unrelated skill and experience. Full loss project.

Not only that but also the process snatches business and economic students’ job work. Unemployment grows. When a person with expertise join related skill based job, both organization and employee will be benefited. However, back to the track. Naturally, failure people’s track breaks down between expertise & skill, education & experience.

Education related applicants should provide educational profile first, then experiences and other applicants should provide experiences, then educational profile. After that, if you have any training, workshop etc. certificates, mention them. Organization can understand the reliability of your organized career life. Then applicant must mention about computer literacy, language proficiency and Extra Curriculum Activities. After that applicant must add his or her personal profile, hobbies and references. Organization can understand if the applicant’s computer skill is necessary for the organization, language proficiency is really good for their required communication and is the person really team player not. Applicants should give reference of a government medium to high official at least. Organization can rely on that reference between two references. CV represents the applicant at a glance. It should be designed in a way that grabs the attention of employer easily. We hope it will help both applicants and HRD.
